The Altea-Europa Association has coordinated this project promoted by the Emmaus Association form Spain, in collaboration with the “Association de Sauvegarde et de Promotion de la Personne” from France. It has been carried out with the financial support of the European Social Fund, via the community initiative “Employment Youthstart”, whose main objective is to promote the integration of youth in the labor market, especially those who lack the practical skills or any training or who are at social risk situation. The project was carried out also with the support of the “Generalitat Valenciana”, through the local department of Social Welfare, Economy, Finance and Employment, during the years 1998 and 1999.

The objective of the project was to offer a chance to break with a present of passivity, to take certain distance toward it and prepare for the future. This project represented an opportunity of change for youngsters with integration problems, hosted in training or professional integration centers. It was aimed to offer the young the possibility to reflect on his life, his personal and professional future. It consisted in removing the young from his family or home in Spain and to support him to perform the desired change with a foster care family in France for a period of 3 months, and with an educator carrying out an exhaustive follow up of his change process.
